This is a nationally recognized Outdoor Council of Canada (OCC) course that will provide you with Field Leader (Hiking) training and give you the skills to organize and lead others in a one day, educational or activity-based experience in low-risk terrain that takes place in 3-seasons (spring, summer, or fall.) This course is recognized by Parks Canada as meeting the permitting requirement for a 2-day group management course.
The 2 day course will run from 9:00 - 3:00 daily and and all registrants will be expected to have read the course manual prior to the start date. The first day of the course will be in a classroom setting and the second day will be in the field on a local hike. Specific locations to be confirmed closer to start date.

Cost: The cost for SD71 employees is $195 and $245 for the general public
Registration is complete once you have completed this form AND made an e-transfer to leapup@gmail.com (Ryan Barfoot). An official receipt will be provided at the training. You will receive a copy of the course manual shortly after registration.
Through completion you will receive:

The foundation for sound judgment and decision-making skills to lead safe and enjoyable experiences outside
The ability to:
Bring a group to an outdoor environment
Provide a meaningful experience for your group, whether the purpose is educational, pleasure, health, well-being, and/or connecting with nature
Design a safe experience within the limits of your ability
Identify the limit of your abilities and adjust accordingly
Feel reassured knowing you are using industry-accepted practices providing proper care to participants and ensuring due diligence
