Using Digital Mapping to Connect BC Educators with Place-Conscious Organizations and Opportunities: A Mycorrhizal Approach with Allison Dietrich (SD67, Okanagan/Skaha)

Allison is a mom, environmental educator, gardener, and teacher. She passionately believes in Land-based learning, and delights in designing experiences that spark relationships between children and nature. Allison is energized by all things that deepen her connection to place. Of late these include trail-running, growing food for her family, paddling, and camping. She is excited to support sustainability and environmental education initiatives in the Okanagan Valley. 

Green Careers: An Innovative Approach to Career Education with Ryan Barfoot (SD47, Powell River)

Ryan’s work focuses on transformative education, contemporary Rites of Passage, place-based and ecological learning environments. He has worked with Parks Canada, BC Parks, the National Forest Service and the National Parks Service before building the Outdoor & Ecological Learning department for the Powell River School District (47). Ryan was instrumental in launching the new Green Careers program in partnership with SD47, C2C and other community partners.

On Thursday, December 16th, teachers, community educators and other leaders from across B.C. will meet online to share successful practices and celebrate our work that connects learners with place and the outdoors.

Participants will:

  • Learn about innovative programs and resources across B.C.

  • Share ideas, inspiration and engaging strategies for teaching and learning linked to local places and outdoor spaces

  • Explore opportunities for collaboration and mentorship in their regions and beyond

  • Meet fellow leaders and celebrate successful practices
