Our History

Launched in 2017, the C2C Education Network arose out of the collaboration of its core partners, school districts and communities over the last two decades. In 2006, within the context of the UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development, many of our partners came together to form the BC Working Group on Sustainability Education, known as the Walking the Talk BC Network.

Throughout the following decade, our network worked closely with the BC Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Advanced Education and a wide variety of other partners to support provincial curriculum implementation (including development of the Ministry-adopted Environmental Learning and Experience Guide), a diverse range of professional development events and activities, youth leadership initiatives (such as the BC Green Games), and other critical support for teachers and students across the province.

In 2014-17, with the development of the renewed BC Curriculum, members of our network were invited to participate on the K-12 Science Curriculum Revisions Committee and provide other advice and resources to support the curriculum redesign process. From this inspiring collaboration and the compelling need in our classrooms and communities to support implementation of the new curriculum and its core focus on place, people and planet, our network of partners across B.C. established the Classrooms to Communities (C2C) Education Network.
